Generative AI

Generative AI Policy

As Generative AI becomes more common in research, the Journal of Contemporary Macroeconomic Issues (JCMI) has established these guidelines to maintain the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and quality in its publications.

Defining Generative AI

Generative AI refers to systems (such as GPT-4 or various image generators) that create text, data, or visuals that mimic human output.

Guidelines for Manuscript Preparation

  • Drafting and Editing: Authors may use AI to help write or refine their manuscripts. However, the work must remain original, and the AI’s contribution should never overshadow the author’s own scholarly input.
  • Analyzing Data: AI tools are permitted for data analysis, but authors are solely responsible for the accuracy of the findings. All AI-driven results must be manually verified and interpreted by the human researchers.

Disclosure and Authorship

  • Full Transparency: If AI was used, authors must state which tools were used and to what extent. This should be clearly noted in the methods or acknowledgments section.
  • Human-Only Authorship: AI cannot be listed as an author. Every author must be a human who is personally accountable for the study’s content.

Ethical Standards

  • Originality: Authors must ensure AI-generated text does not result in plagiarism. All submissions undergo routine plagiarism checks.
  • Data Integrity: Fabricating or manipulating data via AI is a serious ethical violation. Authors must guarantee that all data is valid and reliable.

Constraints on AI Use

  • Intellectual Ownership: AI should not replace human critical thinking. The primary arguments, conclusions, and interpretations must come from the authors.
  • Reference Accuracy: Authors should be wary of AI-generated bibliographies, which are often prone to errors. Every citation must be manually checked for accuracy.

Policy Compliance

  • Agreement: Submitting a paper to JCMI implies consent to these rules. Failure to follow them may lead to manuscript rejection or the retraction of a published paper.
  • Future Updates: This policy will be updated as technology evolves. Authors are expected to stay informed about the latest version of these guidelines.
